Description:
A quilt holds the secret to a killer still at large—and who his next victim will be.
Following an attack that killed her mother and stole her ability to speak, 21‑year‑old Sophia Montgomery has no choice but to accept her estranged grandmother’s offer to return to their family home. Although detective Julian Frazier is working hard on the case, Sophia unknowingly frustrates him because her inability to speak thwarts her eyewitness evidence. The fact that Julian is undeniably attracted to Sophia doesn’t help either, so Julian hides his feelings as concern for a trauma victim and focuses instead on finding the killer.
Little do they know, the clues to solving the case may be right in front of them, displayed in Sophia’s mother’s “special” quilt design. Who will realize the secret Sophia’s unwittingly been hiding in plain sight? When the truth comes to light, will Sophia find her voice again? Or will the murderer—still at large—silence her forever?
Rating: ★★★★★ (5 out of 5 stars)
My Thoughts:
Sophia Montgomery has trained since she was small to compete in gymnastics and go to the Olympics. Just as everything in her life is coming together, a brutal attack on Sophia and her mother changes everything. Left without family, future, or voice, Sophia feels hopeless. Not only that, but her mother’s killer and her attacker has yet to be caught. Enter Detective Julian Frazier, the man on her mother’s murder case. Julian feels something when he is around Sophia and he knows he would do anything to keep her safe. He struggles with the question of how God allows such horrible things to happen, but is encouraged that Sophia can still keep her faith at such a time. Time is running out for Julian to keep the press from finding out everything, and for the murderer to discover Sophia is still alive. Will Julian solve the case before they return to finish the job?
Hidden in the Stars was not what I expected to find opening this Quilts of Love book. It was so much more. It was filled with mystery, excitement, heart-pounding action, family secrets unveiled, sweet romance, and real, vulnerable characters that had me attached pretty much as soon as I opened the book. My heart broke with sympathy for Sophia when she was hurt and cheered when she kept standing up despite everything. Despite what I was expecting, the romance wasn’t cliche or cheesy at all…it was really sweet. The mystery and how the author incorporated the quilt storyline… without giving anything away all I can say is that it was extremely well done. The perfect amount of intrigue, suspense, and excitement!
If you are a fan of Brandilyn Collins, Camy Tang, Dani Pettrey, or DiAnn Mills’ books, then you really should try Robin’s new Quilts of Love novel, Hidden in the Stars! This was my first experience with one of Robin’s books and now I am so excited to read more of her work. This had everything I hope to find in a Christian suspenseful fiction novel—the reason I give it 5 stars!
**I received this book from Litfuse Publicity Group in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts are completely my own.
