Desperate times create desperate people. And desperate people are dangerous…
Though Emily Hunt comes from a family of cops, the relatively quiet life of a high school teacher suits her just fine. She’s saving up to buy a house, slowly moving forward after her brother’s death, and settling into a life she loves. So the last person she wants to spend time with is Mason Taylor. An undercover cop, Mason is enemy number one as far as her family is concerned. His involvement in the death of Emily’s brother is still up in the air, and now he expects her to help him with a case. Mason has been working with one of her students, Rafael Cerda, whose brother has been kidnapped by a drug cartel. And with time running out to meet their demands, Rafael is getting desperate. Emily will have to draw on all of her strength to handle what happens next … Fatal Exchange will draw you into a complex matrix of intertwining lives, unraveling secrets, and unexpected love.

Review:
Emily Hunt is a high school history teacher who comes from a family of cops. She has had to deal with a lot of heartache in the past year—her brother’s death and breaking up with her fiancé. Mason Taylor is an undercover cop and was her brother’s partner. Emily’s sister, Avery North from Dangerous Passages, is convinced Mason had something to do with her brother’s death…making him not so popular with the Hunt family. Mason and Emily’s paths cross again when one of her students gets mixed up with a drug cartel and Mason needs her help. Emily never wanted to be a cop like her family, she likes her relatively quiet and satisfying job. Will she be able to handle it? Murder, hostage situations, kidnappings, and more are all included in this thrilling suspense novel.
I didn’t realize that this was the second book in a series until I started reading it. I was immediately caught up in the story so even though I never read a series out of order, I had to make an exception for this one. Wow! Fatal Exchange is one of my new favorites. This book has it all—great characters to whom you can relate, nail-biting suspense, intense shockers, fast-paced action, and a blooming romance! Emily was kind, compassionate, empathetic, brave, and all around a great character. Mason was sweet, caring, tough, and endearing. And the suspense! I could not put this book down. The better part of the story revolves around a single day, but you don’t get bored for a minute as every second leaves you breathless with anticipation. If that wasn’t enough, it was also very inspiring. The characters had to deal with tragedy, fear, betrayal, forgiveness, and intense situations but they stayed so strong in their faith.
I can’t imagine this book getting any better—though I suspect reading #1 first might have! I am very excited to read Dangerous Passages and more from the author Lisa Harris. Really, I can’t recommend this book enough. The one complaint I have is that I have to wait until Spring 2015 to see what happens next with the Hunt family!
*I received this book for free from Revell in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts are completely my own.

Glad to hear this one was good, Bekah – I read the first novel and really enjoyed it, it was “different” than the average suspense novel which made it stand out. Cannot wait to get to this one, too. Sounds like it’ll be another favorite. 🙂
