Hey friends! Happy September. I have big hopes for this new month–in order to soften the blow that is the end of summer, I’ve created a couple new goals for myself to lighten the mood. My first goal is to reach 100 books read in 2017. I’m currently at 84, so that leaves only 16 books. I think I can make it…I’ve been on such a huge reading binge that it doesn’t seem outside the realm of possibility.
My second goal is a little more superficial. Before I tell you, let me give a little backstory. I have, not once, gone swimming or tanning this summer. UGH. I can’t believe I let the summer of 2017 go by without ONE pool visit. So, my second goal is to grab my bathing suit and spend a little time poolside with a good book. Problem is finding a pool that is still open…
Time for my third resolution. My happy place is when I read, bake, and write. While I’ve done more reading in the past month, there’s been noticeably less baking and writing done here on my blog. I’d love to reconnect and give my blog a little more love. I’m looking into finding a new theme, if anyone has any suggestions? I’d love to know of any great themes I should check out!
Now, onto the fun stuff. I’m going to recap some favorite happenings from August!
Favorites from August
Six Flags Great America – I have a season pass to Six Flags, so I’ve been 6 or 7 times this year. This month was a little different though–I went on two rides for the first time. The first is a oldie but a goodie, The Giant Drop. Um, talk about scary. The second recently opened–The Joker! I hadn’t been before because the lines were always 2 hours long, but we went on a weekday and only had to wait 15 minutes. It was awesome.
Natasha – My older sister is #goals. She went on a 2-month trip to Europe and finally came back home in August! She brought back some yummy goodies too, like chocolate from Brussels and gummies from Ireland. Her Instagram page is amazing, you should check her out @tashamalik.
Singin’ in the Rain – My mom, sister, and I went to see CYT’s Singin’ in the Rain. The amount of talent in that show was mind-blowing. They had the coolest rain scene. It was amazing.
Girls night with my bestie – My friend Brennan and I have known each other since we were 11 years old. We live about an hour away now and don’t always get to hang out, which is why it’s especially nice every time we get together! We spent the day at this cool chocolate cafe and shopping. Here’s a picture of Brenn, my sister Serena, and I with our chocolate martinis. 🙂
Cable Girls – Last year I randomly started watching this Spanish drama called The Time in Between. It was so bingeable (I don’t know if that’s even a real word, but it should be if it isn’t). I got almost my entire family into it, even my grandma! My sisters and I were hoping to find something just as good, but after a couple fails we gave up on our search. When Natasha went to Spain last month, she talked about how much she enjoyed The Time in Between with some of her Spanish friends and they recommended Cable Girls. We gave it a try last night and BOOM, a few hours passed like that. It’s SO GOOD, you guys. Can’t wait to finish season 1 tonight with some brownies a la mode. 😉
Books I Read
I read 27 books this month! Like I said, I’ve been on quite the reading binge. In reality it was likely more too because I did forgot to put a bunch on Goodreads. *facepalm* Anyways, here’s the ones I remember! Notice I’ve been in more of a thriller/suspense mood.
Book Haul
I actually did pretty good this month! From June to July, I added around thirty books to my shelves. So that’s why eight feels like such a win *sigh*. Also 1) I technically only bought five of these, 2) they were such fantastic deals, 3) two of them were recommended to me from a trusted reader, and 4) did I mention the deals?! So really, I had to. 😉
LOOKING FORWARD…
Spending some quality time with the sun – I want to take advantage of every summer day there is left! Just thinking about Chicago winters makes me shiver.
Queen of the South Season 2 – AHhH! This is one of my favorite shows. I haven’t watched all of S2 yet because I can’t stand waiting week-to-week to see what happens next. So, in true Netflix fashion, I’m going to binge-watch the second season! Teresa, Camila, James…here I come!
100 Books Read – Hitting this milestone would be awesome!
American Assassin – I can’t wait for this movie. I’m in the middle of reading the book and I think it’s one of those stories that I might actually enjoy the movie version better. My dad and I will definitely be hitting the theaters when this releases!
It – Another movie I’m (sorta) excited for. Mostly scared, but excited too. 😉 My sister Mia and I love watching scary movies!
That’s it! My month in review. How was your August? Any exciting happenings to share? How about book recommendations? Looking forward to anything in September? Comment below! Thanks so much for reading. ♥

Hey Abigail! I know, right?! These days are getting chillier and chillier–it’s making me sad! Hope you had a great summer in the sun, because you are so right. Chicago winters are the WORST!!
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog…love chatting with you! 🙂

The Chicago winters are one of the biggest reasons I now live in the Central Valley of California. Of course, today it was 111 out, and we’re not supposed to see a mere double digits against until two weeks from today. At least we don’t have Chicago’s humidity.
If you’re enjoying “Queen of the South,” I’ll bet you’d like the book it’s based on, by Arturo Perez-Reverte. It’s good!
