This is a world divided by blood – red or silver.

The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change. That is, until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power. Fearful of Mare’s potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime. But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance – Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart.

RATING: ★★★★★ (5 OUT OF 5 STARS)

I’ve been planning to read this novel for a year now, part of a mental list of popular books I wanted to check out. A lot of which I didn’t have very high expectations for, since a lot of wildly popular things tend to be a little overrated in my experience. That is not the case with this novel. This is one of the best I’ve read in the popular young adult category! I get it. I really, really get it. This tale, simply put, has everything you could wish for. Formidable main characters, mesmerizing world building, staggering plot twists, castle intrigue, and flourishing relationships combine to give readers what they really want – a story so good it’ll keep you up at night. Completely immersing myself in a story where the world is so different can be difficult unless I love both the characters and the writing. Mare might be a little abrasive, but she was still relatable. And the two princes? Forget about it, I loved them both. I really didn’t mind this love triangle. With this book, I was totally engaged from page one. My best advice would be to pick it up and give one chapter a try, because that one chapter will turn into two, then ten, and finally you will have finished the whole book it is that impossible to put down. Before I get all fangirl-y (because it will get to be too much) I’ll leave it off at this. You like this genre? Read Red Queen.

{Content: I can’t remember all the content because I read it a while ago (so sorry!) but I remember there was mildly suggestive content, violence, and maybe a swear word or two.}

    I enjoyed this book as well. And I liked the concept of The Bloods and The Silvers. I haven’t read book two yet, I’ll need to do that soon. Great review, Bekah. 🙂

      Yes, I liked the concept as well! It was definitely a dystopian read, but at the same time was unique. Same with me, I own book two but have had to put it aside for now to read some review copies. Soon, I hope! Thanks, Jess. I wrote this short review in a bit of a rush, not expecting to actually post, but decided to publish anyways just because I liked it so much…and also I didn’t have any content planned for last week. *facepalm* Anyways, thanks for the visit!

    THIS ONE SOUNDS SO GOOD! Like you, it’s one I’ve been meaning to read for a looong time. Now that the third book is out, I should just jump in and binge read all the pretties. Because, why not?!?

      Yaaasss! It was so amazing! I just bought the third, which I’m really excited about. (Aren’t they all so PRETTY?!) After reading only the first, I *really* would love to see this story turned into a movie/tv series. I was trying to “cast” the characters the whole time I was reading, ha!

      Anyways, when you read this one, I hope you enjoy as much as I did! I’m really hoping I can go on a nice reading binge soon. Happy Easter weekend!

    It was pretty impossible to put down. I will give it that. I was up until 3 last night finishing it.

      YES! It is unputdownable. I think I stayed up that late too.
